Windsurfing Gear
There is a large quantity of windsurfing gear that is necessary for a windsurfer to be successful. A surfer can get away with running out to hit some waves in a swim suit; and carrying nothing but a board and a tether. A windsurfer on the other hand requires significantly more to go out and have fun.
A windsurfer requires things like a mast, boom, sail, harness, and wetsuit to participate in the sport. That may seem excessive but there are good reasons for each and every thing on that list. Windsurfing gear like the harness is safety oriented. You see, a windsurfer can hit extremely high speeds, and if you crash at those speeds you’ll want your rig to stop where you do, or you may never see it again. The other major function of the harness is an ergonomic one.
You see, when you’re windsurfing you fight the pull of the wind on your sail. If you have to support your body while trying to angle the sail just so, your arms will wear out fairly quickly. That’s why the body harness was chosen over a simple tether for windsurfing. You can wear the harness and attach it to the mast. The harness supports your body weight leaving your arms free for maneuvering. The other pieces of windsurfing gear, like the sail and mast are fairly self explanatory.
