Windsurfing Boards FAQs
What is the difference between paragliding and kite boarding?
Well the primary difference is that in paragliding you are attempting to spend as long as possible off the ground. You also don’t need a board to paraglide. In logistical terms, kite boarding kites are smaller than paragliding kites. This is because they’re only supposed to be a propulsion aid, rather than a lift.
What’s the difference between a long board and a short board?
Long boards are far older than short boards. The original Polynesian surfers used solid wooden long boards that weighed more than 100 lbs each. When surfing was reintroduced to the western world; they found ways to lighten long boards, which in turn meant that a shorter board could be used to provide the same amount of buoyancy. Eventually, this led to the development of an entirely new class of board that was about the same height as the rider, now known as the short board.
What is body boarding?
Body boarding is like surfing, only it is done on a board that is shorter than the rider. The other major difference is that it is done lying down, rather than standing up. It has a long history, similar to surfing’s history. Today, the body board is short, rectangular rather than sweeping, and completely foam based with a plastic belly.
