Bodyboard Surf
Body-board surfing, also known as body-boarding, is a sport that has been popular for hundreds of years. However the board in body boarding underwent significant changes in the latter half of the twentieth century. In body boarding the rider lays on top of a board that is the same size, or even slightly smaller than they are.
This is a huge departure from surfing, where even short boards are at least 2 meters (over six feet) in length and long boards can be up to four meters long. Another major departure for body board surf boards is shape, they are almost rectangular. They are made of foam with a hard plastic undercoating. This is in opposition to the construction of other boards which usually includes a wooden frame on the interior to aid with rigidity.
If a body board surf board needs help to maintain shape, it can be reinforced with stringers. Stringers are small carbon or graphite rods that can be inserted into the board’s interior to strengthen it and help reduce deformation. A board that sees hard use can begin to warp without the additional strengthening.
